Join us for an individualized program for aspiring young designers, artists, architects, product designers, fashion designers and entrepreneurs. We provide tremendous resources for learning typically available only at Parsons, Pratt, MIT Media Lab, NYU ITP, and Carnegie Mellon. Our instructors teach the fundamentals of drawing through fabrication processes in wood, plastics, textiles, electronics, and metal work. This program grew out of the needs of our Lab members who were looking to apply to high schools and college programs which require portfolios and experience in art, design, architecture, and fashion design.
Here’s the details:
- Registration period: June 1 thru July 31. Registration will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
- Residency period: July 1 thru August 31. Residents can attend once a week, or up to 3 times per week for up to 2hrs per session. They can come with a project in mind, or a specific skill that they want to acquire or improve on. We will customize sessions as needed.
- Age requirement: 12yrs and up. (or grade 6 and up). If you fall outside of this age / grade range, we can make exceptions, especially if a parent or legal guardian can accompany the student during certain activities.
Thus far we have a 100% success rate — every young person who has attended learning sessions at JC Fab Lab have been admitted to their high school of choice. Our Lab members and interns now go to High Tech High, McNair Academy, and other fine institutions.
