Looking to become a member of JC Fab Lab? Excellent! What does membership mean? Ok, here’s the skinny:

  • Access

    Membership allows access to general bench space, the woodshop, welding/metalwork area, electronics bench space, WIFI, and of course, the lounge.

  • Discounts

    Members pay reduced hourly rates for the Laser Cutter / Engraver, CNC Mill, and other machines.

  • Storage

    Members can keep small projects at the Lab. (Storage!… well, you can’t keep your 1:4 scale model replica of the Spruce Goose here, but, you’ll have a shelf where you can keep a few things, a small electronics project, and/or a few material samples.

  • A Lift

    Members can use the freight elevator.

What are the extra costs?

  • Storage (Large Projects)

    Storage. Space at the Lab is generous and well designed for getting sizable projects done and large work pieces worked on. However, storage space (like space in most places in Jersey City) are a limited resource, and cost extra.

  • Machines and Materials

    We have a few sophisticated machines that carry hourly fees… current list here, all materials (except for the somewhat plentiful scrap material), and the like. Price list coming soon.

  • Parking

    You can use the loading bay and freight elevator to load in materials for use on projects at the Lab, but you cannot leave your vehicle (no matter how small it is, and no matter how empty the lot seems). Not even for a little bit of time. But this is easy… just move your car to a spot on the street once your stuff is loaded into the freight elevator.

I’m ready! How do I become a member?

  • Application

    First…fill out the membership application form to the right.

  • Wait Patiently

    We’ll contact you, usually within 48 hours, to schedule you for an interview session to become a trial member.

  • Safety Class

    Once your application is reviewed, you need to take a safety class.

    You need to pass the safety class test. This is not just a piece of paper, this is a written test and a thorough evaluation of your common sense and ability to work safely — for your own sake, and for the sake of others. This makes sense, yes? If you need to do this in Spanish or another language, let us know. We’ll sort that out.

Working with JC Fab Lab is awesome. You can learn new things, use awesome tools that you don’t have at home, and see your projects go from concept to completion.
