Your local Fab Lab — needs you!

Surprise surprise! Yes, we are alive and kicking. We’re working hard now to renew our commitment to being your local makerspace… we’re continuing our mission. Drop us a line (@jcfablab on instagram, or jcfablab (at) gmail dot com. Volunteer, become a member, donate your time, materials, and educational know-how. We’re nothing without our community, and that is you. With your time and efforts, we are a…

  • provider of great design work & resources (tell us about your project needs @jcfablab on insta or jcfablab (at) gmail dot com.
  • business incubator lab — Have a home business or a thriving local coffee shop? We can make and manufacture your product, work on your schwag and branded collateral. Need a stand for your store or local marketplace? Need a heated seating area for your restaurant, or elements for photographing your product for online sales? We can make it, or you can make it here. Need resources to support your business? We can recommend partner orgs and provide just-in-time branding, sales, packaging, and manufacturing. We can help you find materials and get it shipped to our door (or yours) — we know how challenging & high-risk supply chain is these days. We can also help you pivot to use whatever is available now. We’re all about local resources, and how to free you up to work on the creative side & mission-critical side of your business. We’re also DIY enthusiasts — we’re a Fab Lab! (short for “Fabrication Laboratory”) — built from the ground-up for fast and flexible business and making things happen.
  • community educational resource — bring your non-profit project and we’ll knock it out of the park… or, at the park, or, anywhere really. Garden boxes, hydroponic indoor food farms, DIY cargo bike design & fabrication, integrated education platforms (remote learning or job training with augmented reality). We also welcome corporate sponsorship from local and global Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives (“CSR”) for worthwhile projects of all kinds that need design, fabrication, building and short-run manufacturing.
  • job skills center — get yourself set up for a career change. We used to be solely focused on Jersey City / North Jersey… now we can provide training remotely, globally, anywhere on earth, or even in orbit.
  • remote learning STEAM/STEM maker facility — you’re at school, but you’re at home. Or, you’re in an apartment or home where the walls, chairs, desk and zoom screen are all too familiar. Get out from behind your desk, and come in and make something. We are COVID-safe, CDC compliant, and housed in a sophisticated 24/7 staffed facility that has the latest and greatest contact-tracing. In other words, we’re much safer than your local bodega or supermarket. And you can make anything here — solve your needs for your home, your community, or for the global pandemic.
  • art, design, robotics, fabrication team HQ — anything can be achieved if you have a team of people working together. We’re working with mechanical engineers and designers from Yale University to help them make an artificial limb so a disabled child can play the viola. (Follow Enable on instagram!). What do you want to work on with your team?
  • strategic partner — we’ve always been incredibly resourceful. The only difference is that now  all of us everywhere are aware of how important local resources are. We move rapidly, we apply thoughtful design to all kinds of things: things for the built environment, software, augmented reality, business needs, art work, things for your home, and things that can start local and solve global issues. Design thinking is what we do… we just call it design.
  • (Healthy) materials library — we’ve always been materials junkies. We’re determined to fix the big problems one project at a time. Hempcrete, batteries,  braking surfaces (for autonomous vehicle brake systems), reusable & up-cycled fabrics, found materials, and more. We are committed stewards for the place we live. While we can make a rocket ship, we are committed to living on this earth for the foreseeable future. And when we do leave this place, we will leave it richer in soil, smartly built-environment, and in ways that we have yet to imagine with great promise for the future.

JC Fab Lab — New location. Same old awesome.

Quick update… yes, we have moved (apologies if you dropped by the old NY Ave. location and found only sawdust, bits of anodized aluminum, and acrylic scraps).

We’re now at 888 Newark Ave., #224, Jersey City, NJ 07307, aka,  on the Mana Contemporary campus, just down the hill from Journal Square.

Oh, and don’t bother trying to reach us at our old landline… try us at our google voice number: 917.512.4042. That’ll connect you to someone who can help answer questions and inquiries for fabrication work.

Good news!

  • Our building and facility are now accessible (as in, handicapped accessible)
  • We’re in and amongst an awesome community of artists, musicians, architects, fabricators, and all-around creative folks
  • Thousands will come to our upcoming Open Studio on Sunday, April 29th from 1:00PM to 5:00PM

What about classes?

We’re on hiatus for general open classes, check back very soon….

We are continuing to provide training and access to art, design, and fabrication resources. If you are young or old, and looking to acquire new skills and gain knowledge in creating 3D design, art work, or just about anything, drop us a line and we’ll set up sessions 1-on-1. Get a friend or 2 to join you, and then it becomes much less expensive per person… plus you’ll have fun, and can collaborate with someone on your project(s).

Summer Camp… is now Summer Residencies

Because of our move, we’re not able to offer open session Summer Camp this year. However, if your child is in middle school and looking to apply to a high school that requires a portfolio… we have a Summer Residency for your talented kid. High school students who are aspiring artists, architects, and designers (industrial, fashion, interiors), and are looking for a place to study and work on applicable skills can find great resources, teachers, and mentors here at the Lab. Contact Us and we’ll set that up for you.
