For this week at campers get into the JC Fab Lab woodshop in a big way. Campers will choose one or more projects that interest them most. JC Fab Lab member Andreas and our Lead Kids Workshop teacher Chris will guide the kids through making their own skateboard deck, birdhouse, chair, and even a custom project that a camper wants to do (as long as it’s doable in a week). Every project will start with design sketches and prototyping. For example, for the skateboard project, each camper can choose their board dimensions, shape, and wheelbase length. We’ll get the kids up to speed on the science of skate decks first so they can customize their ride with full knowledge of how boards can be created for specific kinds of rides. Andreas has been making longboards under his Happy Cloud Cruiser moniker for quite a while now, and he’s ready to bring his knowledge to skateboarding campers. And, of course, campers will customize their decks with laser engraving and stencils of their own design.
